Congratulations to the selected Festival Films!

September 18, 2008

Congratulations to our selected films and filmmakers!

We received a number of quality entries this year - far more entries than we could possibly program. The high quality of entries made the selection process extremely difficult, especially with the limited number of programming spots our festival had available.  All submissions deserve applause for their hard work and creativity.  Seeing the quantity and quality of the submissions only made us even more excited for next year.  Till then though, below are the list of this year’s films.

The 1st Annual Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival Launches This Fall

May 2, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival (PAAFF) is proud to announce its inaugural launch this October.

As the first Asian American Film Festival in Philadelphia’s history, PAAFF is a unique entity. The Philadelphia metropolitan area is home to one of the largest Asian American populations in the country (204,491)1, yet lacks in the diversity of events that cater to Asian Americans. PAAFF is a venue that gives voice to Asian Americans through a wide spectrum of films and programs which are open to all, Asian and non-Asian alike, and will be presented primarily in the English language.

PAAFF will take place in some of the premier venues in Philadelphia and will feature many of the top movies directed by, produced by, and starring Asian Americans. The open call for entries (shorts/features/documentaries) will begin in June.

In addition to the film screenings, there will be panel discussions, Q & A’s with filmmakers, after parties and live performances from some of the top Asian American musical artists.

In its inaugural year, PAAFF’s theme is “Indiependence”; tying in elements of Philadelphia’s great history, along with the significance of Asian Americans breaking through in film.

This is a celebration of films that are distinctively independent, mainstream, introspective, hilarious, action packed, spine tingling, romantic and defying categorization and expectations.
