THE ASIAN AMERICAN FILM LAB PRESENTS
THE 6TH ANNUAL 72 HOUR FILM SHOOTOUT
JUNE 26-29, 2009
New York, NY – The Asian American Film Lab (AAFilmLab), in association with Asian CineVision, is pleased to announce the Sixth Annual 72 Hour Film Shootout (“Shootout”) taking place this year from June 26-29, 2009. The Shootout is a nationwide competition where filmmaking teams have 72 hours to complete short films up to five minutes in length. Teams are given a common theme at the start of the competition to use creatively as they see fit. Teams compete for cash and prizes and the chance to have their films screened at film festivals.

Vincent Who? Screening, Panel Discussion and Reception

The Philadelphia Mayor’s Commission on Asian American Affairs presents a screening of the powerful documentary Vincent Who? with remarks by producer Curtis Chin followed by a civil rights panel discussion.
In 1982, Vincent Chin, a Chinese American was murdered in Detroit by two white autoworkers at the height of anti-Japanese sentiments. For the first time, Asian Americans around the country galvanized to form a real community movement.
This documentary, inspired by a series of town halls organized by Asian Pacific Americans for Progress on the 25th anniversary of the case, features interviews with the key players at the time, as well as a whole new generation of activists.

Casting Call for “The Last Airbender” in Philadelphia

Update 1/29/09 from “NBC Philadelphia”
“There’s a open casting call at the Independence Visitor’s Center (6th and Market) on Saturday, February 7 for M. Night’s newest film “The Last Airbender.” The call is from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
They’re looking for physically fit men and women ages 18 to 85 and children (boys and girls) ages 6 through 16. Near and Far Eastern, Middle Eastern, Asian, Mediterranean and Latino. Oh, and if you have a background in martial arts or military experience, that’s a plus.
Here’s what they’re casting for: Craftsmen, artists, puppeteers, gymnasts, dancers, athletes, soldiers and grandparents for basket weaving, candle making, painting, ceramics, needlepoint, silk screening, whittling, jewelry making, cooking and fishing.
So, just show up, show ‘em what you’ve got, they’ll take a picture and hopefully, you’ll get a part!”
